Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is a notable institute situated in the state capital of
Kerala, Trivandrum. The institute was started in the 2002 which is inaugurated
by former president of India, Dr. Apj Abdul Kalam. This is an autonomous
institute which was organized in behalf of Department of Biotechnology of
the Govt. of India. Previously it was a quality assurance center which is
working under Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment.
Apart biotechnology the institute also has various departments su8ch as
Molecular Medicine, Molecular Reproduction, Molecular Microbiology, Cancer Biology
& Neurobiology) and plant genetic engineering. Recently the
institute is credited as second best biotechnology institute in India which
comes after Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. Selection to this
institute is purely based on the entrance exam basis. For the department of
Biotechnology it only offers research level programs, the institutes is capable
of offering 120 PhD students at a time. Students who are in bio informatics,
biotechnology, agriculture, and veterinary science having 60% aggregate is
eligible to join this course. Based on the entrance exam results, institute
calls the students for walk-in round interview.
